PostAlpin Samedan
Posted on December 15, 2016
«PostAlpin Samedan» is an exhibition project portraying small manufacturing businesses which, in economic fringe regions – in this case mostly in Grisons –, manage to withstand the downward trend by interlinking design achievements and their great personal commitment with the traditions of their respective regions. These manufactories are beacons: examples for the necessity – but also for the opportunities – to transform something old and bring it into the 21st century.

These businesses are extraordinary, and so is our exhibition: It takes place in the La Tuor in Samedan, a defence tower from the 12th century which was renovated into a five-story gallery. There, we present six manufactories through their products and through films which show, in three simultaneous pictures – in the manner of a triptych –, the craftsmen and -women skilfully doing their work: The ski manufacturer zai in Disentis; Kessler snowboards in Braunwald; the grain mill Molino Scartazzini in Promontogno in the Val Bregaglia; the Hotel Piz Linard in Lavin; the small shoe factory Kandahar in Thun near Bern; and the cabinet maker Zangger in Samedan.
