Fascination Diving - Development of diving equipment

by Andreas Pudel

#StudioIndustrialDesign #Master-Thesis

Andreas Pudel’s Master’s Thesis is to develop a novel form of sport in the area of recreational diving. This sport shall develop around a specifically designed diving equipment which aims to convey the fascination of diving and its peculiar feelings to its utmost experience of freedom. With this work Andreas Pudel has been awarded the Design Prize Switzerland 2011 in the category "Newcomer".

«Quick Dive» concept video (no audio)

«Quick Dive» is a design concept, which allows the experience of diving without extensive training and costly, bulky equipment. At the same time it reduces the risks of scuba diving and the complex requirements and dependencies in the sport.

The design is reduced to a minimum of weight and materiality in order to allow a maximum range of physical movement. The resulting gain of mobility shall allow the athletes themselves to develop the sport further.

The «Quick Dive» diving equipment is intended as a basic model and is designed for a depth of up to 10 m. Major advantages are its low weight – about 6 kg compared to 30 kg conventional equipment – in a compact volume, and the short preparation time before the dive. As such it closes a market gap between conventional scuba diving and snorkeling.
