Ziegelhof Liestal, a former beer brewery built in 1850, abandoned in 2006

In our «Master-Workshop I» we will explore the skin of the Tankraum (where the Jungbier is fermenting) trying to de-code the traces of actions inscribed into their surfaces. Our task is not only to detect traces in the skin of the space, we will also research facts of incidents which really happened in the history of the former function of the brewery and after the time the production was suddenly stopped ten years ago. After gathering our findings we will translate them into real and/ or fictional narratives and finally re-enscribe them into the space by projection. We will re-code the Tankraum through our temporary and ephemeral interventions.

While discovering the tank room, where the Jungbier is fermenting for a short period, the guide informed us about the narrow paths in this room (80 cm paths). By de-coding the room through the architecture and the traces of the destruction we physically felt the narrowness of the room. This narrowness we want to encode through tank silhouettes, which we project on hanging foils, which we found in the Ziegelhof. We don‘t know yet the former use of those foils.

Partitur

The addressee (visitor) enters at the beginning a dark room. Like in a ballet, lights are dancing through the space and start to de-code the outlines of the objects in the space. The dramaturgy raises through the reconstruction of the room via the projection on the foils. The peak level is reached when the reconstruction is fulfilled and the segments of circles start rotating. Afterwards, the animation goes backwards, to show the deconstruction of the room until the visitors stand again in the dark.
