CHINDOGU - Unuseless Objects for a New Normal.

2021

von Olivia Linz

Chindogus - „unuseless objects“ are strange inventions that can be seen as manifestations of political, economic and poetic resistance. While they promise a function and are usable to some degree, they remain completely useless.
This two small chindogus are responses to the challenges of togetherness, prescribed distance an proximity around the COVID-19. The objects are made out of material we found in the thrift shop.

The Bouchoire
HYGIENE - COMFORT - STYLE
Is a hygienic and stylish solution for safely visiting cultural events in formal dress during the pandemic. It can be tailored to enhance outfit, it is light and comfortable to hold and can be made for right as well as left handed users. Through avoiding the ear straps used on a conventional mask the Bouchoire carrier also avoids any painful tension or fitting problems.

MAKE SPACE, STAY SAFE
In the year 2020 personal space has become a health concern. The Sicherheitsdistanzschellengurt protects the wearer from unwanted physical contact from strangers in public space. The spacers attached to the belt which are conventionally used by cyclists for safety on the road can be understood by anyone regardless of language or cultural background.
