«Retina III» is the interpretation of a human’s three hour REM sleep cycle. During this particular period of brain activity dreams are experienced most intensely. Compressed into a three minute realtime-video the experiment examines a hypothetical course of day by conveying experienced light sensations into a dynamic motion imagery. The narrative spans from a vague dawn, through different outdoor situations and weather phenomena, working phases and breaks, the emotional states of a propellant night out to the slow initiation of the awakening.

The frantic light patterns were created by a camera placed inside a tower fan, rotating around it’s vertical axis while recording specifically orchestrated lighting sequences in the surrounding space. Simultaneously the monotonous clacking of the rotating fan provides the structural framework.
